IDNR Urban Fishing Clinics

Boy Fishing

The Village of Godfrey is partnering with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to offer free urban fishing clinics at Glazebrook Park during the month of July. Two clinics will be held each day: the first from 9:00 - 11:30 am, the second from 1:00 - 3:30 pm Monday through Friday beginning July 5. All fishing rods, reels, bait and equipment will be provided. The clinics are for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.  For large groups, please call the Parks and Recreation Department at 466-1483 to make a reservation. 


KIDCation OlympicsKIDCation

Test your physical talents with an afternoon of fun at beautiful Glazebrook Park. Children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate in the Godfrey KIDCation Olympics. A series of fun, physical events will be spread throughout the park for all to enjoy in addition to some back to school preparedness stations.

Stream Discovery Field DayIllinois River Watch

Do you enjoy playing in creeks and learning about nature? Are you curious about the water quality in your community? Then join the Stream Discovery program with Matthew Young, RiverWatch and Stream Discovery Coordinator, to get your feet wet collecting scientific data on a local stream! The Stream Discovery Program provides kids and adults with the opportunity to assess water quality in their community by monitoring macroinvertebrates and water chemistry in a local stream. Please wear boots/old tennis shoes and long pants.

This program is brought to you by The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center in partnership with the Village of Godfrey.

Movie NightInside Out

Beautiful Glazebrook Park will be the site for three summer movie nights sponsored by Liberty Bank. Each movie will begin at dusk (it will be late due to the season). Bring your chairs and blankets to sit on and stop by the concession stand for cool treats, popcorn and glow necklaces. The first 50 visitors to each movie will receive a free giveaway!

Great Godfrey Triathlon

Great Godfrey TriathlonThe Village of Godfrey will host its second annual Great Godfrey Triathlon in the end of August 2016. All athletes are encouraged to participate in this swimming, biking, and running competition. The course will consist of a open swim in the pond at Glazebrook Park, a 14 mile bike race through picturesque Godfrey and a 5K trail run.

Early race packet pick up will be available on Friday, August 26 from 3 - 4:30 pm at the Godfrey Village Hall. Packets will also be available for pick up on the day of the race beginning at 5:30 am onsite.

Awards will be handed out for the top three male and female finishers in each age division in addition to the top overall male and female finishers. The Great Godfrey Triathlon is participating in the muniTri series in association with Fleet Feet.

Entry fee includes a souvenir t-shirt and complimentary lunch. Lunch will be available for purchase for guests and spectators. Please contact the Godfrey Parks and Recreation Department  at (618) 466-1483 for additional information.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available as well. Please contact the Park and Recreation Department to sponsor the event.
