Township General Assistance Program

The Godfrey Township General Assistance program helps our neighbors who may need temporary financial help.  This program is required by state law and is administered by the Township Supervisor.  In Godfrey Township the General Assistance program has two components.  General Assistance follows specific guidelines for eligibility and operation.  The process starts with filing a completed application with the Township Supervisor.

The main component of the General Assistance program is known by the same name, General Assistance (GA).  This component helps residents who are not receiving any other federal or state welfare benefits.  This component can make monthly payments on behalf of eligible residents for items like housing, utilities, food, and medical care.

The second component is Emergency Assistance (EA). This component helps residents who are not receiving any other federal or state welfare benefits AND have an urgent, life-threatening need.  EA is a once-per-year payment on behalf of eligible residents for items like housing, utilities, food, and medical care.

For more information or help please contact the office at 618-466-3378.  The regular office hours are 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Monday through Friday.  Other times by appointment.
